La Cueva or “The Cave” as we call it is one of our most unique experiences in all of the Costa Rica. This is a chance to literally sleep behind a waterfall. This is not like pulling up to the front of a hotel and getting off in the lobby. Here we will have to hike for around two hours. It is not the length of the hike but the inclination of the hike. It is practically straight up which makes it pretty intense. At the halfway point we arrive to the organic gardens where you can refill your water and even get some energy from eating some sugar-cane. From this point the hike gets a bit less intense because most of it is down hill. When you arrive to the Cavern you will be awed by the beautiful waterfalls and surrounding jungle. You will see rocks the size of houses that you have to climb over to get to the camping area. When you arrive inside you will see the kitchen and all the beds made for you like you arrived to any other hotel. First things first, after that hike we get you fed. The food is one of the best parts about visiting the cave as you will feel you are getting a 5-Star meal in the middle of the jungle while eating behind a waterfall. After lunch it is time to gear up and head to the top of the waterfall. This is where the adventure begins, at the top of this 110ft waterfall. Here we will ask you to walk off backwards and rappel down. The adrenaline gets pumping and makes for an excellent adventure. We will be at the bottom taking some pictures so make sure you are smiling on the way down. After the rappel we take a short hike to Costa Rica’s tallest waterfall which is the Waterfall Diamante which measures 600ft high and you will have a chance to get near the edge (not too close of course we have it roped off). This also opens up some amazing views of the Pacific Coast. In the evening it is time to shower up in the showers that are tucked away in the jungle made from bamboo and one of the best showers you have ever taken with plenty of water. After we get cleaned up it is time for some more great food, music, and a bonfire. There is no electricity in the cave so we have the place lit up by candle light and it makes for quite the moment in the evening listening to the crackle of the bonfire and the sound of the roaring waterfall that is falling over our heads. Waking up the mornings is about as peaceful as as it can get rising with nature and saying hello to the rushing water. We then fill up with another great meal and make the hike to the pools up top. There is another smaller waterfall that has a pool that’s great for swimming. Everyone gets a chance to jump from a rock if they like and then we just hang out in the pool and waterfall before hiking back down for lunch. This is a two day adventure that is filled with excitement, adrenaline, hiking, excellent food, and one of the most unique places you could ever imagine. If you are up for a trip like this let us know as it is one of the more fun trips we enjoy operating! |
