School Trips

School trips to the tropics are a wonderful experience. The best way to enjoy a school trip to the tropics is to begin to learn about the local environment where you live. When kids are very young the fun thing to do is teach them about the tropical frogs, birds, and jaguars. The important thing is to begin locally. This allows kids to experience their local environment, get involved, and in the later teen years go on to the tropics for a much better appreciation of a school trip in the tropics.

School trips are often operated with the approval of a school board or administration. Teachers or parents who do not find school approval for liability reasons often operate trips on their own with kids from the school but not as a school sponsored trip. The sad fact of today is that along with many parents, schools have become threatened and afraid of possible law-suits of traveling. This idea of thinking they are making kids safer is actually making for a negative impact on the youth. It is detaching kids from the outside world and cutting off much needed experiences. It is seen not just in international travel but it is seen in certain safety issues around the school such as removal of certain playgrounds and outside activities. Richard Louv's best selling book "Last Child in the Woods - Saving our Kids from Nature-Deficit Disorder" is a best seller and describes the negative affects restricting kids from their contact with the natural world through fear of law-suits.
